James Thatcher is an associate attorney at Plant Christensen & Kanell and joined the firm in 2022. Prior to joining the firm, James worked as a judicial law clerk for the Second District Court in Ogden for the honorable H. Craig Hall and Camille L. Neider, as well as working with other judges within the Second District.

James graduated from the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law. While in law school he worked as a law clerk for the Utah Office of Attorney General, Education Division, where he had the opportunity to serve as a Title IX advisor to assist parties in the resolution process and directly participate in Title IX hearings. In addition to his work as a law clerk, James participated in a number of externships, which included externing for Utah Legal Services handling landlord-tenant issues, externing for a semester with the Supreme Court of Utah under the honorable John A. Pearce, and participating in the criminal clinic where he interned with the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office for an entire year, participating in hearings and drafting motions. He competed in Traynor Moot Court and served as the Communications Officer of the law’s school chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. As an undergraduate, James studied at the University of Utah where he received a bachelor’s degree in English and Political Science, graduating as a Phi Beta Kappa.

Outside of work, James enjoys reading, writing, powerlifting, and spending time with his wife and daughter – whether that be indoors or outdoors.
